Church Covenant

CHURCH COVENANT
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as
our Saviour, and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now, in the presence of God,
angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one
another, as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to
strive for the advancement of this Church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to
promote it’s prosperity and spirituality; to sustain it’s worship, ordinances, discipline, and
doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the
expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all
nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our
children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly
in the world; to be just in our dealing, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our
deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the
sale and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage, and to be zealous in our efforts to
advance the kingdom of our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other
in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in
feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for
reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Saviour, to secure it without delay. We
moreover engage, that when we remove from this place, we will, as soon as possible,
unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the
principles of God’s Word.

THE ARTICLES OF FAITH
The Bible:
We believe that the Scripture of the Old and New Testament are verbally inspired by
God, and inerrant in the original writing, and they are of supreme and final authority in
faith and conduct. II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20,21.

God:
We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Sprit.  I
Corinthians 8:6; I John 5:7

Jesus Christ:
We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary
and is true God and true man (God-man).  John 10:30; Matthew 1:18, 23.

Holy Spirit:
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person equal with the Father and the Son, the
Indweller of every believer whereby each is sealed unto the day of redemption of the
body. II Corinthians 13: 14; I Corinthians 6:19; Ephesians 1:13. Therefore, we are
opposed to the current charismatic movement. We believe that God gives spiritual,
enabling gifts for service to all believers (Romans 12:6-8; I Corinthians 12:4-11;
Ephesians 4:11-16); we nonetheless believe that the apostolic age of signs and gifts of
healing and tongues ceased with the ministry of the apostles who were chosen
personally by Christ and with the completion of the written Word of God. We believe that
speaking in tongues was never the common or necessary sign of the baptism nor the
filling of the Spirit. The gifts which remain are sufficient for the ministry and the
perfecting of the Church today. We believe that God does hear and answer the prayer
of faith, according to His Will, for the sick and afflicted. James 5:14-15.

Devil:
We believe in the existence and operating power of a real and personal being opposed
to all righteousness and exalting himself against all that God is and has, the evil one
called Satan, or the Devil, John 8:44; I John 3:18.

Hell:
We believe in a literal Hell, the place of eternal punishment for Satan, demons, and
those never saved. Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:10; Revelation 21:8

Heaven:
We believe in a literal place called Heaven where God's immediate presence is
manifested, where the angels are, and where the redeemed shall ultimately be, from
which Christ descended and ascended again, where He maketh intercession for the
saints, and  from whence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.  Acts 7:56;
Philippians 1:23.

Man:
We believe that God created man in His own image and in a state of innocency, but that
through temptation man willfully transgressed and became dead in trespasses and sins,
whereby his posterity inherits a corrupt nature, being born in sin and under
condemnation. Genesis 1:26; Ephesians 2:1-3; John 3:18.

Salvation:
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a
representative and substitutionary sacrifice; that He arose from the dead in His glorified
body, ascended into Heaven as our great High Priest and Advocate; He ever lives to
make intercession for us; that all who believe on His name are justified and receive the
gift of eternal life by the grace of God. II Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 7:24,25; John 5:24.

Regeneration:
We believe that regeneration is a divine and instantaneous work of the Holy Spirit
whereby God imparts life to one dead in trespasses and sins. Titus 3:5; John 1:12; I
Peter 1:23.

Sanctification:
We believe that sanctification is a divine and progressive work of the Holy Spirit whereby
God, upon the ground of the finished work of Christ on the cross, matures the Christian.
His present intercessory ministry, and His divine Word, sets the believer apart and works
out, in, and through him, by means of a submissive will, which is well pleasing to Himself
and through Jesus Christ. This work culminates in the redemption of the body. John 17:
17-19; Hebrews 10:10; I Corinthians 6:1.

Eternal Security:
We believe in the eternal security of the believer. By this we mean that once a person
has accepted Jesus Christ as Saviour, the Christian is kept  by the power of God and is
thus secure in Christ forever. John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Romans 8:35-39; I Peter 1:5.  We
believe that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation
through the testimony of God's Word and not to use their Christian liberty as an excuse
for sin. Romans 13:13-14; Galatians 5:13; Titus 2:11-15; John 5:24.

The Church:
We believe in the one true Church, the mystical Body and Bride of the Lord Jesus, into
which believers are baptized by the Holy Spirit. We believe that the local church is an
organization composed of regenerated, immersed believers instituted for the purpose of
fellowship, worship and service. In the matters of administration and policy, it is self-
governing  I Corinthians 12:12,13; I Corinthians 1:2; Matthew 18:15-20.

Baptism:
We believe in Christian baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit, being the only Bible mode of baptism and testifying the believer's faith in, and
identification with, the crucified, buried, and risen Saviour. Matthew 28:20; Romans 6:3.

The Lord's Supper:
We believe that the Lord's Supper is an ordinance whereby immersed believers who are
walking in fellowship partake and show forth the Lord's death till He comes. We believe
the elements consist of unleavened bread and unfermented grape juice. Mark 14:22-25;
I Corinthians 11:23-34.

Christ's Return:
We believe in the glorious hope of the pre-tribulational, premillennial, imminent, visible,
and bodily return of Christ. I Thessalonians 4:13-17; John 14:3.

Separation of Church and State:
We believe in the separation of Church and State. By this we mean the State shall in no
way dictate to the Church concerning Church affairs. However, we believe that our
Christian faith, based on the truths of God's Word, the Bible, shall influence every
aspect of our lives, including politics. Philippians 3:20; I Peter 1:3,4; Colossians 3:14-
17.
